A jewellery collection that merges architectural principles with fashion design, using cardboard as an innovative and sustainable material.
Setting a focal point on the essence of construction, both in the body and infrastructures we build. The merge of their skeletons resulting in tangible reliability. With this project, the connection of the three principles of architecture and the anatomy of the human body will be shown in form of jewellery as well as body adornment. Where the primary and secondary structures of the design play a crucial role.
In architectural design, both the primary and secondary structures must be considered. The primary structure serves as the logical foundation, while the secondary structure functions to conceal or enhance the appearance of the building. Both must work in harmony to create a cohesive and functional design, and they should look like a cast, seamlessly supporting the overall form.
According to Vitruv, architecture is built on the three principles of:
- stability (firmitas) - utility (utilitas) - grace/ beauty (venustas) -
All the pieces were crafted using Finnish cardboard, a material made from fine wood particles commonly used in architectural model-making. To increase durability, the cardboard was reinforced by gluing multiple layers together, creating solid, stable forms suitable for wearable design exploration.
- The Stability corset, inspired by firmitas, echoes the load-bearing structures of both architecture and the human skeleton.
- The Utility bracelet, rooted in utilitas, reflects internal building systems and the body's circulation.
- The Aesthetic necklace, drawn from venustas, explores adornment through its connection to the skin—our most visible and decorative organ.
