"Silent Body" is a project which examines the journey of an alienated body that has lost connection with its physical self, due to societal and work pressures. It explores themes of isolation, disorientation, and the struggle to reconnect with human touch and awareness. The project highlights the transformative power of touch in overcoming alienation and finding embodiment.
This work is part of a group work, and explores metamorphosis through the transformation of a burned out human into a fully embodied individual. By combining metal and feathers, the pieces evoke the tactile nature of human connection. They speak to the intimate, physical ways we relate to one another—particularly between partners. Inspired in part by the dynamic between dance partners, the work emphasizes how essential touch and physical interaction are meaningful bonds.
The pieces invite touch, drawing on our instinctive urge to feel the softness of feathers, an impulse rooted in human nature. The wearer embodies the burned-out individual, confronted with the rough, cold surface of darkened copper. This contrast awakens a longing for sensation and connection, symbolizing the journey from numbness back to human intimacy and reconnection through touch.
The three pieces in the Enticement collection are designed for parts of the body touched by a dance partner, exploring themes of burnout and healing through material and colour. Copper symbolizes a connection to nature, while its oxidized black surface evokes disconnection and emotional coldness. In contrast, soft blue tones and delicate ostrich feathers suggest tranquillity and invite touch, reflecting our innate need for connection. Through this sensory contrast, the pieces encourage renewed intimacy and restore a harmonious, rhythmic bond between partners.
