The project “Identitet”, Swedish for “Identity”, is a work created in 2023 that explores the development of the individual self. It reflects on the beauty of personal growth and the many transformative stages a person may experience throughout a lifetime. Inspired by nature and crafted in wood, this ring symbolizes the evolving phases of human life, capturing both fragility and strength in its organic form.
Hands are the witnesses of time and tell us what phase of life we are in. Every wrinkle, scar, cut and every external as well as internal change is part of our history and identity. But not only we have an imprint that is individual and tells our story. Through a tree‘s year rings we can determine its age and find out what natural events have affected it during its lifetime.
The ring is made of wood and silver. The three rings of wood represent the three phases of life:
- becoming, being and passing away -
They are cut from the same cherry wood, but in different nuances. The darkest wood is heartwood, the middle is sapwood and the lightest is splint wood. The piece was shaped from a single plank of wood, with the technique of milling using a router employed to subtract material and reveal the ring’s form.
